Le Doderm Hydro RepairGel is made up of several natural ingredients, each with its own specific benefits. What they have in common is that they help restore the skin’s microbiome.
Our ingredients are high-quality and have been scientifically and/or botanically proven to support your pet’s skin. We’re happy to explain the ingredients and their effects so you know exactly what you’re putting on your pet’s skin!
All of our products are manufactured in accordance with human quality standards and very strict scientific criteria to ensure their safety and effectiveness.
Ingredients
A quick overview
Main ingredient
Antibodies (IgG) in colostrum
Many staphylococci live around a cow! That is why a cow protects her calf thanks to the many antibodies present in cow’s milk. Unlike humans, the young animal does not receive immune defenses via its mother’s placenta during pregnancy. After birth, the calf therefore receives its antibodies through milk (especially the first milk): colostrum. The antibodies bind to toxins and, in a sense, “neutralize” the bacteria. The skin thus regains its resistance. The “good” bacteria return and are nourished by our skin gel, while the “bad” ones disappear. The skin’s pH is restored to a level appropriate for your animal. Doderm uses milk from the third milking. It is surplus in agriculture and is generally discarded. Gently cleaned and filtered, it remains concentrated in pure (active) antibodies. They are diverse and “smart”—they act against bacteria only where they are needed.
Plant extracts
Witch hazel (Hamamelis)
Doderm contains witch hazel leaf extract. Witch hazel contains flavonoids that protect the skin from free radicals and stimulate blood circulation in the skin. These are antioxidants that are also found in various types of fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts, and seeds. In addition, witch hazel has unique anti-inflammatory properties that help heal irritated and damaged skin.
Graines de cœur (Cardiospermum halicacabum)
Cardiospermum (Cardiospermum halicacabum) is a fast-growing annual plant found in subtropical and tropical regions, particularly in Africa, South America, India, and Australia. In herbal medicine, Cardiospermum halicacabum is known for its anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and analgesic properties.
Marigold (Calendula officinalis)
Calendula, also known as marigold, is known for its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties in cases of skin and mucous membrane infections, but it has also proven its healing benefits in wound healing. Calendula disinfects and soothes the skin and promotes healing. This ingredient is one of the key components of Doderm Hydro RepairGel.
Natural substances
Miel
Honey is known for its medicinal properties. This is because it is a natural anti-inflammatory. In fact, honey is packed with essential vitamins, minerals, and enzymes that help repair the skin.
Oats
There’s a good reason why we use oats in our Doderm Hydro RepairGel. Oats have been used for years as a skincare ingredient and contain various compounds, each of which has a different effect on the skin. The carbohydrates and proteins in oats can bind to the skin and form a protective layer. In addition, the proteins help maintain the skin’s pH balance. The lipids in oats strengthen the skin and thereby also reduce moisture loss. The fibers in oats, particularly beta-glucan, help the skin attract and retain moisture. This is something that dry or eczema-prone skin often cannot do well on its own. And finally... oats also contain saponins, which cleanse the skin, as well as vitamins and flavonoids (substances that have a soothing effect).
Vitamins
Vitamin A (retinol)
Retinol is better known as vitamin A. This vitamin is essential for healthy skin. You can think of it as oxygen for your skin. It helps repair damage, restore your skin’s natural balance, and visibly improve its appearance.
Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin. It can be produced in the body from beta-carotene, which is therefore also called provitamin A. Vitamin A is important for the formation of blood vessels and thus for the health of all cells. It is an antioxidant that is used as a natural preservative. Vitamin A is necessary for tissue repair and maintenance. It also accelerates the formation of new, healthy skin cells.
Vitamin B5 (panthenol)
Panthenol (also known as provitamin B5) is a substance derived from the B vitamin pantothenic acid. Panthenol strengthens the skin’s barrier function because vitamin B5 has moisturizing properties and thus helps prevent moisture loss through evaporation from the skin.
Vitamin E
In addition to supporting muscle health, vitamin E also plays a supportive role in the nervous and immune systems. Tocopherol is a natural form of vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps eliminate free radicals and naturally cleanse the body. Vitamin E strengthens the skin’s barrier function, has regenerative properties, and offers protection against skin damage caused by UV rays.
Components of the skin barrier
Ceramide
If we think of the skin as being made up of many different skin cells that fit together like bricks, ceramides are the natural cement that holds these skin cells together. This keeps the skin hydrated and keeps harmful bacteria at bay. You can imagine that if your pet suffers from skin irritation, this natural barrier is disrupted. The ceramides added to Doderm Hydro RepairGel promote the skin’s natural repair process and help the skin cells come together again like bricks.
Cholesterol
Cholesterol may seem a bit strange as an ingredient in a skin care gel. Many people think of it as something “bad” that should be avoided. But cholesterol is naturally present in the skin and, together with ceramides (building blocks) and free fatty acids, forms the lipid barrier that protects the skin from drying out. It’s easy to imagine that when the skin microbiome is disrupted by an allergic reaction or an injury, this barrier is compromised. The cholesterol and ceramides in Doderm Hydro RepairGel work together to prevent the skin from drying out and help it regain its natural resilience.
Lecithin
Lecithin is a unique substance because it can bind fat and water, forming a single entity. It is also known as an emulsifier and gives Doderm a beautiful, smooth gel texture that is easy to apply.
In addition to this practical function, it also has skin-care properties. Since lecithin can bind fats to water, it forms a non-occlusive layer that allows the skin to continue breathing while also retaining moisture within that layer. As a result, the skin does not dry out, remaining supple and well-hydrated.
Nutrition for the microbiome
Glycerol
Le Doderm Hydro RepairGel contains glycerin. This is a moisturizing ingredient. It is easily absorbed by the skin and helps the skin retain moisture. In addition to its moisturizing effect, glycerin also has a positive impact on skin elasticity and supports the skin barrier.
Hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid is a substance produced by the body and has powerful moisturizing properties. A single gram of hyaluronic acid can absorb up to six liters of liquid. That’s pretty impressive! Irritated skin is often dehydrated and can heal more effectively when properly hydrated. Hyaluronic acid is ideal for this. Furthermore, recent studies show that it may not only have moisturizing properties but also antioxidant properties. This discovery is very important, as it suggests that it can act as a kind of protective shield against free radicals in the environment.
