Antibodies (IgG) from colostrum

Many staphylococci live all around a cow! That is why a cow protects her calf with antibodies in her milk. Unlike in humans, the calf does not receive immune protection through the mother’s placenta during pregnancy. After birth, the calf therefore receives its antibodies through milk (especially the first milk): colostrum. The antibodies bind to the toxins and, so to speak, “neutralize” the bacteria. This allows the skin to regain its resilience. The “good” bacteria return and are nourished by our skin gel, while the “bad” ones disappear. The pH levels in the skin are restored to the proper balance for your animal. Doderm uses milk from the third milking. This milk is surplus in agricultural settings and is usually discarded. Gently cleaned and filtered, the concentration of pure (active) antibodies remains intact. They are diverse and “intelligent”—they act against bacteria only where they are needed.

Plant extracts

Witch hazel (Hamamelis)

Doderm contains an extract from the leaves of the witch hazel shrub. Witch hazel contains flavonoids that protect the skin from free radicals and stimulate blood circulation in the skin. These are antioxidants that are also found in various types of fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts, and seeds. In addition, witch hazel has unique anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe irritated and damaged skin.

Heartwarming

Heartseed (Cardiospermum halicacabum) is a fast-growing annual plant found in subtropical and tropical regions, including Africa, South America, India, and Australia. In herbal medicine, Cardiospermum halicacabum is known for its anti-inflammatory, anti-itching, and pain-relieving properties.

Marigold (Calendula officinalis)

Calendula, or marigold, is known for its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties in treating skin and mucous membrane infections, but it has also proven effective in promoting wound healing. Marigold disinfects and soothes the skin and promotes wound healing. This ingredient is one of the key components in Doderm Hydro RepairGel.

Natural materials

Honey

Honey is known for its medicinal properties. This is because it is a natural anti-inflammatory. Honey is packed with essential vitamins, minerals, and enzymes that help repair the skin.

Oats

There’s a good reason why we use oats in our Doderm Hydro RepairGel. Oats have been used in skincare for years and contain various substances. All of these have different effects on the skin. Carbohydrates and proteins from oats can bind to the skin and form a protective layer. In addition, the proteins help maintain the skin’s pH balance. The fats in oats strengthen the skin and thus also reduce moisture loss. The fibers in oats, particularly beta-glucan, help the skin attract and retain moisture. This is something that dry or eczema-prone skin often struggles to do on its own. And finally... oats also contain saponins, which cleanse the skin, as well as vitamins and flavonoids (substances that have a soothing effect).

Vitamins

Vitamin A (retinol)

Retinol is better known as vitamin A. This vitamin is essential if you want to achieve healthy skin. You can think of it as oxygen for your skin. It helps repair damage, restore your skin to its normal state, and visibly improve its appearance.

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin. It can be produced in the body from beta-carotene, which is therefore also referred to as provitamin A. Vitamin A is important for the formation of blood vessels and thus for the health of all cells. It is an antioxidant that is used as a natural preservative. Vitamin A is necessary for tissue repair and maintenance. It also accelerates the formation of healthy new skin cells.

Vitamin B5 (panthenol)

Panthenol (also known as provitamin B5) is a substance derived from the B vitamin pantothenic acid. Panthenol strengthens the skin’s barrier function because vitamin B5 has moisturizing properties and thus helps prevent moisture loss from the skin due to evaporation.

Vitamin E

In addition to supporting muscle health, vitamin E also plays a supportive role in the nervous and immune systems. Tocopherol is a natural form of vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps neutralize free radicals and naturally cleanses the body. Vitamin E strengthens the skin’s barrier function, has regenerative properties, and offers protection against skin damage caused by UV radiation.

Building blocks for the skin barrier

Ceramides

When you consider that the skin is made up of many different skin cells that fit together like bricks, ceramides act as the natural cement that keeps these skin cells bound together. This keeps the skin hydrated and keeps harmful bacteria at bay. You can imagine that if your pet is suffering from skin irritation, this natural barrier is compromised. The ceramides added to Doderm Hydro RepairGel support the skin’s natural repair process and ensure that skin cells fit together again like bricks.

Cholesterol

Cholesterol may sound a bit strange as an ingredient in a skin care gel. Many people think of it as something “bad” that you shouldn’t consume too much of. But cholesterol occurs naturally in the skin and, together with ceramides (building blocks) and free fatty acids, forms the lipid barrier that protects the skin from drying out. It’s easy to imagine that when the skin microbiome is disrupted by an allergic reaction or a wound, this barrier is compromised. The cholesterol and ceramides in Doderm Hydro RepairGel work together to ensure that the skin doesn’t dry out and regains its natural resilience.

Lecithin

Lecithin is a unique substance because it can bind fat and water, forming a single entity. It is also known as an emulsifier and ensures that Doderm has a smooth gel texture that is easy to apply.

In addition to this practical function, it also has nourishing properties. Because lecithin can bind fat to water, it forms a non-occlusive layer that allows the skin to continue breathing while also locking in moisture within this layer. As a result, the skin does not dry out and remains beautifully supple and hydrated.

Nutrition for the Microbiome

Glycerin

Doderm Hydro RepairGel contains glycerin. This is a moisturizing ingredient. It is easily absorbed by the skin and helps reduce moisture loss. As a result, in addition to its moisturizing properties, glycerin also has a positive effect on skin elasticity and supports the skin barrier.

hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body and has powerful moisturizing properties. A single gram of hyaluronic acid can bind up to six liters of fluid. That’s pretty impressive! Irritated skin is often dehydrated and can recover more effectively when it is well-hydrated. Hyaluronic acid is ideal for this. Furthermore, recent studies suggest that it may not only have moisturizing properties but also antioxidant properties. This finding is very important because it indicates that it can act as a kind of protective shield against free radicals from the environment.
