When the skin microbiome becomes unbalanced, staphylococci—common skin bacteria—can proliferate and weaken the skin. This weakening makes the skin susceptible to bacterial infections, with the toxins produced by staphylococci causing inflammation.
In cows, the calf receives the necessary antibodies through the mother’s milk immediately after birth. The first milk, known as colostrum, is rich in antibodies—a mini-immune system passed from the cow to the calf. We use these antibodies, which remain in the milk after the calf has been sufficiently nourished. Using an innovative process, we extract these antibodies from the milk and incorporate them into our Doderm Hydro RepairGel.
These antibodies, combined with other essential ingredients, support the skin in fighting bacteria and nurture the natural microbiome. The skin regenerates its resilience, promoting beneficial bacteria while suppressing harmful ones. Our gel also contains nutrients for the good bacteria and helps restore the pH balance of dogs’ and horses’ skin. In this way, we harness the power of nature. And so, combined with years of scientific expertise, an innovative product was created that is effective while being gentle on your animal and its skin.
The Microbiome as the Key to Success
Doderm Explained Simply
On this page, we’ll explain the world of microorganisms in the simplest terms possible, focusing on the essentials. Countless microscopic organisms—such as bacteria, viruses, and yeasts—live in and on our bodies; this is completely natural. The community of these tiny life forms is called the microbiome. Animals also have their own microbiome.
If you know how to do it, it's very good for your health.
The Role of Staphylococci
Although usually harmless, staphylococci can cause infections when the skin barrier is compromised, for example due to UV radiation or scratching. This leads to dysbiosis—an imbalance in the microbiome—and increases the risk of infection.
Cow's milk as an immune system booster
Cows protect their calves through antibodies in their milk, since the calves do not develop an immune system while in the womb. The first milk, known as colostrum, is particularly rich in these antibodies. They bind to the toxins produced by bacteria and neutralize them.
In this way, they act as highly effective and robust defenders, strengthening the skin against infections and helping beneficial bacteria to return.
The Goodness of Cow's Milk
Doderm uses milk from the third milking, which is often surplus in agricultural settings. Through gentle purification and filtration, we obtain concentrated, active antibodies.
These are particularly effective and target exactly where they are needed.
Our goal
A Balanced Ecosystem
We strive to create a balanced ecosystem that provides optimal living conditions for our animals, the environment, and future generations. By using circular raw materials and natural, anti-inflammatory ingredients, we reduce the need for antibiotics.
The Science Behind Doderm Hydro Repair Gel
Our bodies are home to a wide variety of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and yeasts, which are collectively known as the microbiome. This microbiome plays a crucial role in the health of our skin—and, of course, that of our animal friends as well.
Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Doderm Hydro RepairGel can be used to treat various skin irritations in pets. It is important to note that while Doderm can help soothe the skin in the cases listed below, it is by no means a medication that can prevent the underlying cause of skin irritations. Therefore, we always recommend consulting a veterinarian to address the root cause.
For best results, you should apply the skin gel twice a day. If you have a horse, it can sometimes be difficult to visit the stable twice a day. In that case, we recommend applying it at least once a day.
The first results are visible after 3 to 5 days. After that, it is advisable to continue using the product until the skin has fully recovered (on average, 2 to 3 weeks)
Yes! Our skin gel is free of antibiotics and cortisone, but just as effective! Long-term use of antibiotics can lead to the development of resistance. In short, the antibiotics then work less effectively or not at all. And of course, you want the antibiotics to work well for your pet in cases of severe infections. For the benefit of people, animals, and the environment, we want to ensure that fewer antibiotics and cortisone are used.
Apart from the size, there’s practically no difference. It’s exactly the same skin gel, just in a handy small size. One small difference from the Doderm Hydro Repair Gel is that the SOS Gel doesn’t contain any lavender scent, so you can use the SOS Gel on both your dog and your horse.
No, Doderm Hydro RepairGel does not contain cortisone. Cortisone ointment is sometimes prescribed for certain skin irritations; unfortunately, however, it not only fights harmful bacteria but also beneficial bacteria, which disrupts the skin microbiome. Thanks to the antibodies in our Doderm Hydro RepairGel, only the harmful bacteria are neutralized; the skin microbiome remains undisturbed and is nourished by our gel.
The Hydro Repair Gel has a shelf life of 6 months after opening.
Unfortunately, there’s no clear-cut answer to that. It really depends on how large the area of skin irritation is. If the irritation is limited to a small area, one bottle will last longer than if it covers a large area. The Hydro RepairGel spreads easily and doesn’t need to be applied thickly, so one bottle can easily last you a long time. Hydro RepairGel Horse is now also available in a 100-ml size, which is ideal if your horse has skin irritation in multiple areas or over a large area.
Absolutely! We only use colostrum from the third milking. This is a byproduct of dairy farming and is often simply thrown away! We think that’s such a shame, because it still contains plenty of antibodies that we can use in Doderm Hydro RepairGel. This also makes the skin gel sustainable.
